Weekly Topic: Imagination and Identification
Imagination is a picture of the world that is created in our own heads mechanically. Imagination is a mixture of emotions, the many ‘I’s, beliefs and opinions, and expectations which are unreal. It appears so real and justified that it blinds us to reality.
What makes imagination seem so real is the repeated appearance of it. ─ The Teacher
Identification, the state in which we lose our identity by focusing on one element of the external or internal world, makes us emotionally enslaved to it. Identification is expressed as attachment, desire, aversion, or obsession. It is a form of hypnosis that exists in the absence of self-remembering. When we are identified, we lose ourselves in the object of our attention.
Weekly Exercise
When you observe that imagination is taking over the space, try to come back to reality and physically feel what is in the present moment. There are many things we can feel. For example, the touch of the wind or water. Also, when we touch various things, be aware of the texture and temperature. Please share your observations and thoughts in the comments below.
When you are full of things you are empty of God. If you are empty of things you are full of God. ─Meister Eckhart
