Weekly Topic: Controlling the Emotional Center

If we could only control the emotional center, then we could observe the unnecessary suffering that the machine generates through negative emotions. Wrong work of the emotional center can cloud one’s vision of reality. On the other hand, when the emotional center is functioning properly and connects to awakening, it can bring us closer to higher states of consciousness. A properly functioning emotional center can act as a catalyst for awakening.

For it is from the awakening of the emotional centre that the greatest force is derived. Nothing can really happen until the emotional centre begins to participate in our work. — Maurice Nicoll

Weekly Exercise

Since emotional energy is formidable and volatile, advanced preparation gives us a chance to be ready to work with it. Self-Remembering is key to controlling the emotional center. This week take a few moments to think about a recurring emotion that happens to you and try to develop an intentional plan for when the emotion predictably happens again. For instance, immediately turn your focus to the most beautiful impression in your environment – a cloud, a ring on your finger, or a flower – be specific. Bring awareness and presence to it. Experiment, observe and do not try to make big changes. If you are willing, share your observations with others in the comments.
