Everything Leads to Humility
When we believe ourselves to be humble it emanates from a place that satisfies our machine but it may not be real. Our actions, well intentioned, but often mechanical come from the Lower Self. Students of the School are understanding with more clarity that true humility exists in Higher Centers. In this state of consciousness we are able to serve others with compassion and love, free of inner consideration.
Humility is not easily defined. In fact, it raises many questions. How does one live with humility if we live much of our day in the lower self? Is humility imaginary? If humility is a state, do we recognize it as it is happening or similar to being Presence, after it occurs?
Each of us has his own answers to these questions. Perhaps in Higher Centers, when we are able to love ourselves and others with no limitations, there lies humility. When we live selflessly, there lies humility. When we are quiet and small, there lies humility. When we are in divine light, there lies humility.
From Meister Eckhart, “If you want to find the truth that matters, remember this: it’s hidden and not what you think. Stop thinking. And don’t imagine you can find it through what you can put into words. It’s like light that bursts forth from the darkness, like waters rising from unseen depths, or the wind blows where it will.”
And from Rumi, “Humble yourself, you'll grow greater than the world. Your Self will be revealed to you, without you.”
Orpheus, attributed to French painter Paul Duqueylar (1771-1845)
