A weekly exercise
Each week an exercise will be posted for the aim of raising awareness and being present in the midst of ordinary life.
Many of us were told from a young age that it is not nice to interrupt. When we are the ones interrupting, we often don’t even notice it. Our machine has something to say and needs to speak. When we are the ones being interrupted, our machine is annoyed and often thinks or responds negatively. Through it all, we are internally considering and not in third state. Contrary to what we’ve been told, this week we intentionally interrupt ourselves so as a reminder to be present. Perhaps a little annoying and uncomfortable, this little shock is designed to awaken us throughout our day.
Two thoughts from our teacher,“Negative shocks are positive shocks if we use them for presence. “ And “ We must be grateful for anything that calls us from imagination.”
Here are a few suggested ‘interrupters” for the week. Wear your watch on the opposite wrist. Hold your mobile phone in the opposite hand and use the other hand to text, swipe, and make calls. Put your seat belt on using your opposite hand.
