A weekly exercise
Each week an exercise will be posted for the aim of raising awareness and being present in the midst of ordinary life.
This week’s exercise focuses on voluntary suffering. When we suffer voluntarily, we create discomfort or inconvenience to take us out of the state we are in and bring us to presence. Distractions interrupt the mechanical patterns of the lower self, divide our attention and awaken us out of a state of sleep.
Place a coin in your shoe for the day. Notice how this little annoyance reminds you to BE. Perhaps after a few days you are able to separate yourself from the negative emotions from the lower self. As my teacher says, “Anyway we can combat sleep is a blessing.”
