A weekly exercise
Each week an exercise will be posted for the aim of living consciously.
My teacher has spoken of the shedding of all thoughts. He said, “When we are in a state of prolong presence if we listen to any I’s at all then we lose what is better.”
When we are lost in thought we are living in an imaginary state, that which is unconscious and unaware. Random thoughts throughout the day are produced by our Lower Centers and serve as lubricants to fuel our machine. I’m not suggesting that we do not think as we need to think to function in this world. However, we do not need to listen to negative thoughts and we can make a conscious effort to control negative emotions as they are an obstruction to Presence. Our ability to self observe and drop the many I’s enables us to transcend to the thoughtless reality of Higher Centers. Of course the lower self works diligently to draw us back to habitual thoughts. And so it is, and then we start again, all towards consciousness and presence.
This week let your wandering thoughts serve as an alarm clock or internal gong. Each time the alarm goes off take a moment to BE present. Slow down, smile, find beauty and/or joy in that which is before you.
From Rumi, “One by one let go of all distractions . Embrace the light and let it guide you.”
