A weekly exercise
Each week an exercise will be posted for the aim of raising awareness and being present in the midst of ordinary life.
Eating with Presence
For many of us, we eat and drink in second state that of sleep. Our instinctive center feed our bodies, but what nourishes our soul? Eating with presence, the act of consciously looking, chewing and tasting our food, creates a higher state within and nourishes our soul. Eating becomes dining and we are engaged in the process. As my teacher says , “We sometimes find ourselves eating and realize that we are going too fast; then we slow down and come in with presence. The lower self goes out, and we come in.”
This week attempt to make each meal a dining experience. Sit down at a table without being distracted. Create a calm space by adding a bouquet of flowers or playing beautiful music. Feast your eyes upon the food you are about to eat, place it in your mouth, set your utensils down on your plate, chew slowly and taste. Take a sip of your beverage in between every few bites. When sharing a meal with others, put down your utensils and refrain from eating or talking until the other is done speaking.
While the machine is eating, you are dining in presence.
As our teacher says, what one experiences, we all experience. We welcome you to share your experiences either regarding this exercise or a past exercise.
