Weekly Topic: Outside Help
Awakening from sleep to higher consciousness is facilitated by the help of others. Gurdjieff uses the metaphor that escaping from prison is only possible with the help of others who have escaped. Realizing one is asleep and learning to ask for help are some of the first steps in the Work, first steps in escaping from the prison of sleep.
Weekly Exercise
This week, be attentive to simple opportunities for outside help that present themselves. To be specific, try asking for help from another – even if you are uncomfortable – when shopping, looking for driving directions, or in need of emotional support. How did it feel to accept help from another? Observe the resistance and resolution.
Without help we would not even know there is somewhere to go – the present. — The Teacher
