We are Alone Without Outside Help
We take for granted that we know with certainty the path of a solar eclipse that will be crossing North America in a few days. We are the inheritors of knowledge and as Isaac Newton pointed out, “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.”
In ancient times, one such giant was Thales of Miletus and he is credited as the first to predict a solar eclipse in 585 BCE and he founded what came to be known as science. Thales is regarded as one of the Seven Sages of Greece. Born in modern-day Turkey around 624–545 BCE, Thales was a pre-Socratic philosopher who made noteworthy contributions in the fields of philosophy, mathematics, and astronomy. I could imagine a citizen living during his time might seek Thales out to gain knowledge and instruction in his areas of expertise, much like we build upon and seek knowledge and direction from modern-day teachers.
We ordinarily look for assistance in many areas of our lives. For instance, I might hire a golf pro to learn golf; apprentice myself to an accomplished artist to learn painting; a physicist to learn physics; and a Master or sage to learn about awakening and interpreting wisdom.
“Even the idea of consciousness, penetrating deeply into a man’s essence, will make him search for men more conscious than himself, and for ‘schools’ conducted by such men … drawing him to those in whose presence he may actually acquire more consciousness.” − Rodney Collin
In its simplest form, Outside Help – or the search for it – could be regarded as seeking self-knowledge from books, religious traditions, mystical experiences, or teachers who point a person in the direction of self-realization. This search could even have prompted you to join this private Fourth Way Facebook page, continuing to interest you in higher states and what we offer as a form of "Outside Help.” There are several reasons why you might have arrived on our Facebook page, but that you are here is more significant than why you came.
The search for objective knowledge is no ordinary search and it involves outside help and receptivity to new ways of thinking and receiving. The first prerequisite in finding or attracting outside help is the verification of sleep and the need to awaken to a new level of consciousness. Every moment of life can be a spark of Outside Help when we are awakened enough to see and use even mundane experiences as a mirror.
A fellow student recently relayed an experience that illustrates beautifully how outside help miraculously instructed his actions. He knew he had to write a Facebook post, but arrived home from an exhausting day of work and had no energy to compose an essay. Instead, he jumped into his pajamas and turned on a random, silly television show. At one point in the middle of the program, a character declared, “We need outside help.” He immediately turned off the television and that prophetic message embedded in the dialogue was enough to wake him up and launch a new effort into writing his post. With self-awareness and receptivity to instruction – even from the oddest places like a television show – my friend was able to use that moment to raise his state and use it as outside help.
“There are a small handful of men … who have created conscious souls for themselves; for whom self-consciousness is permanent, and who through this consciousness have the power of influencing and enlightening thousands or even millions of other men.” − Rodney Collin
Conscious Teachers are as uncommon as a solar eclipse, but following their path is certain to bring us closer to the light. Those seeking the miraculous present seek out these rare Teachers and Schools to learn to create their souls and evoke higher states. Without the influence of my conscious Teacher and his direction, I would likely not recognize or awaken to messages of outside help that come to me in my daily life.
