The Fourth Way and Kabbalah

The Fourth Way and Kabbalah

As P.D. Ouspensky shared in The Fourth Way, the knowledge contained in his book came from Higher Mind. The same is true for all pure Teachings on ‘Awakening.’ Only Higher Mind, which Mr. Ouspensky calls ‘C Influence,’ has the Knowledge and Being to teach mankind how to create a Soul. Logic would dictate that since all Teachings or Systems on Awakening stem from the same source, the essence of all Teachings is the same.

There are, however, two areas that separate one System from another: the form and wording that each System uses to awaken. And because the external form of each System is so unlike one another, it appears to man’s logical mind that the Message of each System is different, as well.

The main characteristic that separates the Fourth Way System from Kabbalah is that the Fourth Way is not connected to a religion, whereas Kabbalah is associated with the Jewish religion. In Judaism, the focus is on the Bible, service, and doing good deeds to one’s fellow man (in Hebrew these foci are called Torah, ‘avodah’ and ‘gemilut chasadim.’) In the Fourth Way, the focus is on the teaching of the System, efforts, and external consideration.

Kabbalah uses the term ‘Angels’ to describe the invisible, non-human Beings that serve both the Absolute (Ein Sof) and humanity. The Fourth Way uses terms such as Higher Forces, C Influence, or gods, to describe these same Beings

Kabbalah teaches that one must do everything with ‘Kavanah,’ (intention, purpose, or direction.) The Fourth Way teaches that one must do everything with self-remembering (presence, awareness, or attention,) The Teaching of Kavanah/self-remembering is at the heart of both Kabbalah and The Fourth Way. Both Systems emphasize that Awakening cannot occur in sleep or imagination.
