The Deputy Steward, Steward and Higher Centers
“Where do the deputy steward, and steward, stand in relation to higher centers?”
The deputy steward and steward are groups of I’s in the lower centers, connected together by associations that we build by doing the work. The deputy steward gradually organizes the household of the lower centers by minimizing personalities that oppose the work and developing groups of ‘I’s that are beneficial to the work. The steward can actually organize the lower centers so that they do not stand in the way of the higher centers.
Interestingly, both deputy steward and steward grow through brief flashes of self remembering, so, in a distant way, they are the children of higher centers. While every moment of self-remembering may not truly be the operation of higher centers, some moments certainly are. On some rare occasions, the higher centers manifest by themselves, without the help of the steward. Thus, we see that they are independent of the four lower centers and the steward. The role of the steward is primarily to take us out of the second state into the third state. Also, once we are in the third state, it comes into play when that state starts to wane. Even if we are fully conscious, as long as we have the many ‘I’s, we will need the steward to keep our inner household in order.
