Awakening from the Inside Out
To the extent that I become more receptive to finer energy and subtle influences, I increase and deepen my awareness of the presence of outside help. This receptivity begins with an exploration of my machine’s weaknesses and strengths through self-reflection, observations of sleep and mechanical reactions. I first must sweep out, reorganize and tidy my internal house before guests can be received. I have cluttered and hoarded my inner space with negative emotions, identifications, imagination, and many other harmful habits of sleep.
When I was first introduced to the Fourth Way, false personality had already grown into a strong shield around me. I was protected by a robust wall of mechanical behavior which kept me asleep and kept others from invading my privacy and encroaching on my personal space. So unfortunately, along with successfully blocking the harmful criticisms that inevitably happen in life, this solid shield also prevented outside help from reaching me. This shield stops higher, subtler cosmic influences – outside help – from reaching the inner self.
Outside help means inside presence. — The Teacher
A crack in false personality’s shield was induced by gradually accumulating moments of self-remembering. From experiencing more higher states, trust in myself was steadily regained and I also began trusting in others. My fellow students who were like-minded mentors, became my outside eyes. They could observe me from a less identified state, from the outside in, and I began to be open and receptive to their help. Without commitment and trust, fear reenters and I become shielded again. Those who are interested in their own awakening discover that their possibilities are intricately connected to helping others. We are alarm clocks to wake each other up.
The moment one definitely commits oneself … all sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred … unforeseen incidents and assistance, which no one could have dreamt come [their] way.” — Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Going through life’s difficulties and transforming suffering – trial by fire – is one way to melt the shield and open myself to attracting outside help. Or even when I am alone, if I am more conscious, outside help can be accessible by simply looking up at the stars and sensing the vastness and scale of my existence.
The more I am free from illusions and strengthen my valuation for self-remembering, the closer I am to higher states and attracting higher forces. It is extremely rare to benefit and enjoy the influence of a conscious Teacher in a real School. If you find this in your life, lower your shield and embrace your good fortune.
We cannot obtain heavenly bliss through our strength alone, but with the assistance of divine grace. — Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
